In the late 1990's Rev. Smith ministered with Burning Bush Ministries on several occasions. She had a strong desire to minister to inmates, but the Lord was not opening the doors the way she expected Him to. Then in April 2003, she attended a Weekend of Champions with Bill Glass Ministries. She was introduced to West Central PDC in Zebulon where she ministered Friday, Saturday and Sunday. She was then asked to be over the 8-week follow-up ministry for those who had made a decision for the Lord during the Weekend of Champions. Rev. Smith has been dedicated to prison ministry ever since.
Set Captives Free Ministries (SCFM) was "conceived" in the heart of Rev. Smith in 2002; however, Rev. Smith operated as Prison Ministry Coordinator over another ministry while SCFM was being established.
While with the other ministry, Rev. Smith has ministered at Dooley, Men’s, Baldwin, Wilcox, Dodge, and West Central, as well as special services at Metro, Pulaski, Augusta Medical Center, Lee Arrendale, and many others throughout the state of Georgia.
The Lord gave Rev. Smith the vision for an all-day event to be held out in the prison yard with music, praise dance, drama, motorcycles, puppets, testimonies, preaching, and ministering one on one which truly sets the inmates “free.” This day was initially held at West Central where it was received so well that it continued to be held there twice a year. Other institutions that embraced it included Emanuel PDC in Twin City and Swainsboro, Men’s State Prison and Dooly State Prison to mention just a few.
In early 2010, God opened the doors for SCFM to be "birthed" at Relevate Church (formerly City Church of Canton). Since that time there have been over 50 certified volunteers trained through the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Kevin Humphery
Rev. Kevin Humphery has been a minister for about 20 years. Though comfortable in a church pulpit, his real passion and calling is to minister in the prisons. He is an anointed man of God who is "real" with the inmates and brings the Word to where they live. They relate to him and Pastor Kevin is reaching lives behind the wire for the Lord.
Wayne Smith
Rev. Wayne Smith is a Bible Scholar who spends almost every waking hour in study, research, and prayer. Because he owns his own business driving an 18-wheeler, he can follow his passion to study, pray and minister and to make a difference in people's lives. He is a "watchman on the wall" and loves to discuss prophesy along with current events. He makes sure he is home every fourth Saturday to go to Macon Transitional Center where he is currently teaching a series on "Prophesy - What Does It Mean for You?" His desire is to "wake people up" to live according to the Word and not follow every teaching that "comes down the pike" just because it sounds good. He encourages people to get into the Word, study, and find out for yourself what it says.
Julia Smith
Julia Smith has an undying passion for helping the homeless and also ministering to those in prison. She goes faithfully to Macon Transitional to assist her husband Wayne Smith every 4th Saturday as well as going to all of the Days of Breakthrough where she takes part in the dramas and also helps Wayne with the photography. She has taken some amazing pictures that you will see on this website. She also helps me with "behind the scene" activities that need to be done for the prison ministry. She is an amazing asset to the ministry.
Susan Slaven
Susan Slaven is a mighty woman of God who is a true servant of the Lord. She works in many capacities in the church whether it be feeding the hungry, cleaning the sanctuary, serving as a greeter, working in the kitchen, ministering at the altar, acting on the drama team, or serving on the prison team. She drives my car or a van to almost every prison we go into. The inmates fondly call her "driving Ms. Daisy." When it comes to the altar call or prayer requests, she is right there praying for the inmates.
Lance Johnson
Pastor Lance Johnson is an anointed man of God who preaches the uncompromised, indisputable Word of God without apology. He has a passion to see souls saved … not just for a "get out of hell free card" but to turn their lives around to serve God without compromise. He preaches holiness with a fiery passion. He is "real" …. and he tells it like it is! He has been a pastor for about 20 years and many, many souls have been saved, delivered and set free under his preaching! His sermons "hit people where they live" whether it be in a church service, over the internet, in a tent service, or in a prison!!!
